Where and How to Give Back this Holiday Season
November 8, 2018
Find out how residents at ROSS’ apartments in Alexandria are contributing this year
It’s time to put away those lingering Halloween decorations, stash your remaining candy, and get ready for an entirely new type of treat! The rest of the holidays are right around the corner, and soon ROSS’ apartments in Alexandria will be decking their halls from top to bottom. So light a candle, sing a song, and really get in the mood for the season! With so many gifts to give and so much gratitude in our hearts, it’s lucky there’s more than one way to give this season. Beyond The Salvation Army’s Santa with his change-enticing bell, there are lots of ways to donate, volunteer, collect, and give back this year.
Fund for Alexandria’s Child Holiday Sharing Program
Just within this one charity, there are an astounding number of ways to contribute. It’s a perfect way to give back for those who want to know exactly where their money is going, and maybe have a soft spot for a particular cause. Sponsor a family, a senior citizen, a disabled individual, a foster child or teen, and participate in the Alexandria Community Toy Drive! Any and all combinations of donation are welcome. For those who prefer to give their time rather than their money, they have a signup specific to volunteering.
One Warm Coat Day
It’s one charity with a clear mission. This nationwide organization is dedicated to keeping people warm each and every winter. But on November 15, One Warm Coat Day, there’s something even more special. For that day only, beginning at 8 a.m., all donations made through the website or through a personal coat drive will be matched! You could double your contribution up to $12,000.
Family Volunteer Day with Volunteer Alexandria
On November 18 starting at 9:30 a.m., Volunteer Alexandria will be hosting a family volunteer day dedicated to all things holiday. Any and all are welcome, including children as young as six and seniors, so bring the whole clan! The more volunteers, the bigger the difference. Stuff holiday stockings to bring cheer to those in need.
The Hope Against Hunger Campaign
If you’ve got a busy time ahead and you’re not sure where your dollars will make the biggest difference, consider the Hope Against Hunger Campaign hosted by the Arlington Food Assistance Center. A $25 donation will provide a family in need with a Thanksgiving turkey or a chicken for the December holidays. Thus far, they’ve raised over $4,400 dollars, with the biggest contribution being $640. Think you can beat it?
We encourage you to dig deep this year and make something truly magical happen for someone in need. Want to make an even bigger difference? Collaborate with your local ROSS apartments in Alexandria and host a building-wide drive! Yet another advantage of living with ROSS: helpful staff and generous neighbors. Take a tour today and see for yourself.
