Ways to Give Back this July

July 3, 2019

This Fourth of July we celebrate America’s 243rdbirthday, and all of the freedoms these centuries have granted its citizens. Progress comes with every waking day, giving us something to always be thankful for. Read on for a few ways to give back to your country and community from our ROSS Military apartments.

Donations

There are an astonishing number of people in the world with the willingness to do good, but without the capability. A small donation can go a long way in the efforts to make the world a better place. The Charity Navigator features a list of highly-rated and trustworthy organizations that provide a wide array of services for the military. This could include anything from assistance with food and rent for veterans, to medical expenses and morale uplift for current troop members. Broken up into categories of “wounded troops services,” “military social services,” and “military family support,” it will be difficult to choose just one!

Service

The history of America is rich with culture. There are more interesting avenues to discover in the average lifetime! If history appeals to you, consider joining the National Mall and Memorial Park’s Volunteers.

Charged with preserving the monuments and memorials that define the District, these volunteers assist more than twenty sites with greeting visitors, giving them a brief history on the area, and answering any questions that they might have. These locations have a wide variety of different histories, and include diverse locations such as the Old Post Office Tower near the Constitution Gardens, to more recently built structures like the Vietnam wall.

Gratitude

Rarely, is there a wrong time to say thank you, especially in regard to the brave men and women that defend our country every day. Organizations like A Million Thanks provide messages of appreciation for our military, both past and present. They send letters to active servicemen and women, as well as veterans giving them the hope that they need, and the praise that they deserve.

Any of these options would be an excellent example of what it means to give back to a community, both small scale and large. But when we fail to have the resources of time and money to share, giving out kindnesses will prove to be the most important. Fortunately, all of these opportunities are easily accessible from our ROSS military apartments. Take a tour today to see just how simple it is!
