Top Four Destinations to Celebrate Earth Day
April 23, 2015
Residents of ROSS’ military housing off-base are in the midst of Earth Week, which is the week surrounding Earth Day – the annual event that creates awareness for environmental protection.
To show their support for this movement, organizations worldwide host events on Earth Day or during Earth Week – some even celebrate Earth Month! Luckily, the residents of ROSS’ apartments off-base don’t have to travel the globe this April to attend these Earth-saving events; rather, they can stay local and attend one of the many happening right in their stomping grounds.
Here are the top four places residents of ROSS’ military apartments can go to show their support for our precious planet:
- Georgetown, at the Tudor Place Earth Day Tree Fest: This historic house and garden is celebrating Earth Day on Saturday, April 25, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with lively and kid-friendly attractions. This celebration is full of: games; music; a sing-a-long show with the popular group, Nature Jams; guided tours, including kid-friendly ones that are accompanied by an illustrated garden map; crafts; and the ability to plant seedlings.
- Anacostia River, for the Anacostia Watershed: At approximately 20 sites throughout the Anacostia Watershed area, volunteers will gather on April 25 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. to help clean up neighborhoods, parks, streams and the Anacostia River. After the cleanup, the Anacostia Watershed Society is hosting a celebration in honor of the volunteers, who are more commonly referred to as “the heroes of the Anacostia River.” As the Society explains, “The celebration will include free food and drink prepared by Seafarers Yacht Club, our long-time Earth Day partner. There will also be live music, local exhibitors, and notable speakers. All volunteers are invited!”
- Alabama Ave, SE DC, is hosting Broccoli Festival 2015: The third annual Broccoli Festival will be at the St. Elizabeth East Gateway Pavilion this Saturday, April 25; doors open at 12:00 p.m. and the event runs until 9:00 p.m. At #BCFest2015, guests should expect an amazing music line-up, a hassle-free event entry process, a large variety of food options, exhibits of different healthy and sustainable living solutions, plenty of adult drink selections, live art installations and so much more.
- Alexandria, VA, for Alexandria Earth Day 2015: This “It’s Your Turn to Lead” event will be held at Ben Brenman Park this Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The five-man, local band, Purple Isn’t Six, will be performing and a showing of the Upcycle Showcase, food vendors and free rides to the event are just a few of the variety of fun-filled events you can expect this year.
After you spend the morning showing your support for environmental protection, your next destination should be a place that not only supports Earth Day through their use of energy-efficient appliances, but also our noble military members through ROSS’ military discount programs. Take a tour of ROSS’ military apartments and celebrate Earth Day, EVERY day!
