Pumpkin Patches to Hit This Fall

October 18, 2018

These once-a-year fall experiences are a short drive from your Laurel apartment.

Maryland has some of the most beautiful countryside in the nation. Rolling hills covered in crops, long green plots spotted with cattle. Blue skies with fluffy white clouds paint the horizon, even in these early autumn months. And just half an hour from your Laurel apartment, there are farms where you can experience Maryland’s natural beauty in all its natural luster. Visit any one of these farms for your fall pumpkin picking and you won’t be disappointed.

Clark’s Elioak Farm | Ellicott City, MD

This farm is without a doubt Maryland’s most eccentric agricultural destination. Beyond its well-tended pumpkin patch and country store, Clark’s Elioak Farm is a veritable wonderland. Visit the farm’s petting zoo to meet friendly farm animals. Hop on the cow train or try a pony ride. Then head to the Enchanted Forest. This sprawling attraction is a collection of lovingly restored structures, each with their own fairytale. Step into Cinderella’s Pumpkin Coach and meet Mother Goose. Explore the shoe that old lady lived in and shake Humpty Dumpty’s hand. The Three Little Pigs will make an appearance, as will the Queen of Hearts’ Card Guard. A white castle entrance completes this quintessential fantasy experience. And the fun ramps up even more on the weekend with a visit from Ellicott City’s “Bubbleman”; a pop-up store by The Forget-Me-Not Factory; a team of face painters; and special food vendors. It’s a Maryland must-see!

Larriland Farm | Woodbine, MD

In addition to pumpkins, Larriland Farm has a variety of seasonal produce and a few spectacularly autumnal offerings. Pick up to five different types of apples, various vegetables including tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, beets and spinach, and Asian pears starting in mid-October. Flowers and herbs are also available for hand-cutting. As far as fall-themed fun goes, you can grab a just-fried apple fritter or get lunch from a local food truck on the weekends. Their autumn activities run five days a week. Bring the kids and explore the straw maze, try the boo barn for a little scare and top it off with a hayride.

Knightongale Farm | Harwood, MD

It’s only open on weekends, but this farm experience is worth the trip and the planning. This farm doesn’t just have a huge field of pick-your-own pumpkins. It’s got a corn maze, a farm animal petting zoo, hayrides, face painting, and delicious food and drinks. Pedal tractors will keep the little ones occupied for hours while you enjoy the brisk fall weather. At the end of your visit, you can pose with a hay bale spider and other spooky characters. Knightongale Farm is only open for five weeks a year, so be sure to get in while you can!
