The residents of ROSS’ off-base military apartments are near plenty of attractions and events for a fun and patriotic 4th of July.

The residents of ROSS’ off-base military apartments are fortunate to live right outside of our nation’s capital. This is convenient for many reasons. Especially when it’s summertime and Independence Day rolls around. 4th of July is always a time characterized by fun, food, friends and plenty of red, white and blue; but celebrating our country’s birthday in our nation’s capital takes things up another notch.

Get your fill of fun, history and patriotism at one or all of these 4th of July weekend activities going on in and around Washington, DC. To top it off, all of these activities are free to attend!

 

Roam the exhibits at The National Museum of American History

The museum is open year ’round

An American Celebration at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate

July 4, 2017, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“An American Celebration includes an inspirational naturalization ceremony for new citizens with a special keynote address, daytime fireworks, military re-enactments, a wreath laying ceremony, free birthday cake (while supplies last), and a visit from General and Mrs. Washington.”

 

National Independence Day Parade

July 4, 2017, 11:45 a.m.

Constitution Avenue, NW, from 7th Street to 17th Street

“The Parade consists of invited bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military and specialty units, giant balloons, equestrian, drill teams, VIP’s, national dignitaries, and celebrity participants. The Parade is a major national event which seeks to draw the attention of Americans to the real meaning for the holiday.”

 

A Capitol Fourth Concert and Fireworks

July 4, 2017, gates open at 3 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m.

The West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol

“On July Fourth, America’s national Independence Day celebration honors our country’s birthday with an all-star salute.
