The Ultimate DC Bucket List

Plan the supreme city adventure from your college apartment before you turn 30!

There are some things in this city that you can only experience for the first time once. And some things you’ll want to do over and over. Without further ado, we present the top five DC experiences you need to have before you turn 30…

Attend a black-tie event

If you’re pursuing a high-profile or politically oriented career, many black-tie events may be in your future. But rest assured, it will never hold the same wonder that it does now. You probably remember your first time on a college campus, your first drink and your first kiss. Attending a black-tie event is just one of the high-class firsts you have to experience while you’re here.

Visit the National Museum of African American History & Culture

Almost two years after it opened, this museum still uses timed passes to stem the flow of visitors! If that doesn’t tell you what you need to know about its cultural importance and visitation appeal, then nothing will. It’s rare that the Smithsonian opens an entirely new museum. Take advantage and get a pass to this unique American experience. Open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. daily, with same-day, timed passes available online starting at 6:30 a.m.

Try out a cult workout class

The concept of novelty as a key ingredient in fitness is a completely contemporary concept. It’s doubtful whether surfboard yoga or trampoline acrobatics will last long-term in the fitness world. But, while they’re around, why not give these cult workouts a try? Classes involving indoor parkour, air drums (no, really: air drums!) and animalistic movements are among the wildest, but they’re still relatively intuitive. Kangoo Jumps classes, on the other hand, are SO bizarre that I won’t even attempt to describe them here. Look them up…and maybe give them a try!

See your idol in concert

There are few cities with a better music scene that Washington, DC. Not only is it central to East Coast outdoor concert locales, but it’s also full to the brim with indoor venues: Echostage, the 9:30 Club, the Black Cat, Pearl Street Warehouse and U Street Music Hall, just to name a few. Take a look at your favorite band or artist’s summer tour and find out which DC club they’ll be playing at. Tickets may be pricey but once-in-a-life-time experiences are worth the money. And the wait. Be sure to leave your college apartment early so you can get to the door before opening and grab a great spot on the floor.

Create the ultimate pub crawl

Whether you’re into throbbing EDM, heavy metal or linguistically complex rap, there’s a club playing your kind of music. And there’s a place in the city to get your favorite drink made just right, no matter how obscure it is. Get your best friends together and start mapping out your ultimate DC pub crawl, with all your favorite spots on the list. Nothing is a more passionate love letter to your city than hitting the scene with all of your friends together that one last time.

One of the biggest benefits of living in a DC college apartment is access to the city. So, before you grow up and start making responsible adult decisions, cross some items off your DC bucket list. There’s never been a better time to make a memory, so don’t wait ’til you’re 30. Tour one of our ideally located apartments today for a taste of DC living.
