Downtown Thanksgiving Celebrations
November 9, 2017
There are fun ways to spend turkey day just blocks away from ROSS’ Red Line Metro apartments.
Thanksgiving is about gratitude. And there’s a lot to be grateful for. You have a legitimate excuse to eat tons of food. You get the chance to reconnect with friends and family you’ve missed. And on most days, you can still enjoy being outside.
When the weather does turn cold, the residents of ROSS’ Red Line Metro apartments are grateful for the short walk to public transportation and the even shorter walk to city center. In Downtown Silver Spring, street markets pop up out of nowhere… parades come marching through town… and tasty opportunities arise.
Here are just a few of the delightful events that our residents are enjoying this November:
This Thanksgiving Day parade may not be as big as the Macy’s spectacle in New York but it’s just as traditional (and perhaps even more entertaining). In addition to the band, the dancers and the numerous inflatables, the event will have an ice rink and a designated spot for fun family photos. Moreover, spectators are encouraged to participate in the festivities using the hashtag #MoCoThanksParade. Although parking will be limited, the residents of ROSS’ Red Line Metro apartments can just walk on over! The parade is on November 18 and starts at 10 a.m.
The Fenton Street Market is a monthly event but new vendors are joining all the time. November’s market will feature 30+ vendors who offer an array of handmade products, vintage items and cultural crafts. It’s perhaps the only place in Silver Spring where you can pick up a classic bicycle for your niece or nephew, buy a colorful hand-woven purse for your mother and find an engaging holiday read for yourself. Come out on November 12 between 12-6 p.m. to discover your new favorite thing.
Last but not least: an option that’s even easier than walking a just few blocks from the ROSS’ Red Line Metro apartments into Downtown Silver Spring. Skip the hassle of a big turkey dinner at your apartment and opt for the buffet at Mrs. K’s! This classy kitchen is nestled into an old tollhouse that’s been standing for over a century. And although renovations have transformed the once snug entry into an expansive dining room, the restaurant’s old-time charm is preserved in its china displays and original red brickwork. Mrs. K’s is just a three-minute drive (or a leisurely half-mile stroll) from several ROSS’ Red Line Metro apartments, including Metro 710, Cole Spring Plaza and Colesville Towers.
