4 Ways the DMV is Honoring Our Veterans This November
November 5, 2018
There are moving veteran celebrations awaiting residents of ROSS’ military housing.
Some of these celebrations are minutes away from ROSS’ military housing, but it might be worth going farther afield for a truly unique experience. Join veterans in downtown DC for a solemn recognition of military life on the ground during the Vietnam years, or head to Virginia and Maryland for inspiring performances by the United States’ best military bands and choirs.
The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Veteran Day Concert
This Veteran’s Day celebration doubles as a sneak preview of the U.S. Army Band’s winter performances! Colonel Andrew J. Esch conducts one of the military’s premiere music groups through songs any military family would recognize: National Spirit March, the Armed Forced Medley, and The Stars and Stripes Forever.

Vietnam: In Their Own Words
At the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, you can hear personal stories from Vietnam-era veterans and their children. In similar style to The Soldier’s Story anthology by Ron Steinman, these stories reflect the whole and candid experience of those who fought in Vietnam. You will be moved to your core by the hardships, the triumphs, and the sheer courage of these veterans.

The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants
These two musical organizations within the U.S. military make for a powerful duo in concert this Veteran’s Day. The U.S. Air Force Band, led by Colonel Larry H. Lang, will play a selection of expressive orchestral pieces from the Air Force Hymn to the Rienzi Overture. The Singing Sergeants, another musical unit within the U.S. Air Force, has its own impressive repertoire, including such well-loved songs as America the Beautiful and Elijah Rock.
Frederick, MD | November 11 | 3pm
Finally, remember our veterans all day long with a trip to Mount Vernon. In honor of the occasion, admission is free to all active duty, former, and retired military personnel from 9am to 4pm.
