Fun Outdoor Activities for the Family

April 4, 2019

Spring into action with these fun outdoor activities near your Laurel apartment!

Annual Patuxent River Cleanup

A great way to give back to your community is by keeping it clean and safe. The Patuxent Riverkeepers is a non-profit group that works to conserve and protect the Patuxent River. On April 6, they are looking for volunteers to assist them in removing trash and debris from the waterway. Not only does this protect the community by facilitating a smoother river flow during major rain events, but it also contributes to conserving the overall environment. If you are interested in participating, the meeting point will be at Riverfront Park, on Avondale Street, at 9 a.m. Supplies and tools will be provided.

Eggstravaganza

On April 13, Peter Cottontail is coming back down to Laurel for the city’s annual Eggstravaganza! Organized by Laurel’s Department of Parks & Recreation and the Laurel Lions Club, the Eggstravaganza is the perfect activity to kick off the spring season and meet new members in your community! This event is free and will be hosted at the Granville Gude Park & Lakehouse. Before you head down, call your neighbors and your friends to join in on the fun! All children under the age of 12 are invited to participate in the various Eggstravaganza groups.

Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day at one of Laurel’s many parks! With over 10 parks to choose from, there is plenty of space to pack a picnic and outdoor games to entertain all of your friends and family. Take this day as an opportunity to relax and appreciate the beauty of Laurel’s parks.

Alternatively, if you’re interested in giving back to your community, you and your family can volunteer for the Laurel Lakes Cleanup at Granville Gude Park. The group will meet April 20 at the Lakehouse on Mulberry Street at 9 a.m.

Adult and Youth Sports Leagues

Another fun way to get outside and enjoy the spring weather is by joining an outdoor sports league! Laurel has a variety of sports to choose from for different age groups, which means there is certainly something for everyone. From basketball to softball, soccer to swimming, make sure you register and sign up on the Department of Parks & Recreation’s website.

Luckily, all of these activities are easily accessible from our ROSS apartments in Laurel. Take a tour today to see just how close you can be!
