Fall Fun Near Your Military Apartment | Military Apartments
November 1, 2018
After a single visit, it becomes clear why people say ROSS’ military apartments are perfectly located. It’s just a few metro stops into the city, a short drive from the country, and a quick commute to military bases all around the DMV. Come autumn, that advantage grows ten-fold. This fall, you can go trick-or-treating with your kids in Georgetown or Chevy Chase. You can take your significant other on a romantic apple-picking trip. Or you can take the whole family to any number of awesome autumn celebrations in downtown DC!
Classic Fall Fun
In addition to some of the other amazing apple-picking and pumpkin-picking[patches in the DMV, Sharp’s at Waterford Farm offers a great fall experience. It’s a working farm with 530 active acres, including an unusual you-pick cornfield. On October 19, you can attend Day in the Life of a Farmer, where you and your kids will learn about fall crops and beekeeping, feed friendly goats, and explore the corn maze. Yes, there will be hayrides, too. Come back on November 6 for a look at the life of the Pilgrims.
Butler’s Orchard Festival will add a little extra magic to your fall festivities. It’s the only place you can take a ride in a mythical pumpkin carriage. Plus, there are giant slides, barnyard animals to play with and ponies to ride. Get your faces painted or even witness the firing of a pumpkin cannon! This festival runs through October 28. For a historical perspective, you can visit Mount Vernon during Fall Harvest Days on October 20 and 21. Kids can make their own cornhusk dolls, explore a 16-sides barn, and enjoy early American games and music.
The DMV offers a delightful array of festivals for people with varying interests. The Maryland Renaissance Festival, which runs on weekends through October 21, is perfect for those who have a passion for the Renaissance (or those who like turkey legs). This year’s event includes 200 performers, 140 craftsman, and over 40 food and drink vendors. Get your fill of delicious dishes while you watch one of the many performances. An adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Henry VIII tells a particularly juicy story, with intrigue, betrayal, and adultery.
Next there’s the Dia de los Muertos Celebration hosted in Petworth from October 27 to November 2. Bring the whole family and learn more about Mexican culture while you create spooky crafts. Join an altar-making workshop, attend an outdoor screening of Disney’s Coco on the lawn, or paint your own calavera, a sugar skull.
Lastly, Boo at the Zoo from October 19 to 21 offers an adorable zoological retreat for the kids. Come in your costumes and journey from treat to treat while you explore the zoo after regular hours. In addition, there will be a carousel to ride, live entertainment, and education stations.
Take your pick of a dozen fall events near you this fall! Every single one offers the change to make unforgettable autumn memories. Get dressed up, take lots of pictures, and be sure to write down the events you loved the most so you can go again next year!
