Enjoy the festivities around our Alexandria apartments this fall.

A Saturday is a valuable thing. While weekdays are meant for getting it done and Sunday is the official “lazy day” of the week, Saturday bubbles over with potential. You’ll be satisfied knowing it was well-spent if you fill your Saturday with any of the delightful activities below.

The King Street Art Festival

This festival is the highlight of the fall season in Alexandria. It’s free and open to the public; individuals, families and even our furry friends are welcome. Stroll down King Street between Washington and Union to view handcrafted art, décor and jewelry worth more than $15 million! In addition to the ample art available for viewing and purchase, there will be several interactive events for attendees. Donate to The Art League and receive a handmade ceramic bowl, along with a scoop of tasty ice cream. Or, you can stop by the Beer & Wine Garden sponsored by Torpedo Factory between 11a.m. and 4 p.m. The festival is open Saturday, September 15, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday, September 16, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Old Town

This delightful and affordable district was once home to George Washington; just one of the facts that make it historically fascinating. Today, its storied streets are lined with innovative restaurants, independent boutiques and museums. Visit the Old Town Farmers’ Market on Saturday and experience the nation’s longest continuously running farmers’ market. More than 70 vendors offer fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, breads and other farm-fresh products, like cut flowers, soaps and potted plants. For the full Old Town effect, take the King Street Trolley.

On the Waterfront

There are a dozen ways to enjoy Alexandria’s waterfront. Take a cruise with the Potomac Riverboat Company, sightsee along the river or take a kayak onto the water. Take a historical perspective and learn more about Alexandria’s seaport during the colonial era. Look up a guide for taking the best water feature photos and spend your day by the riverbank snapping shots. Or pack a picnic to eat in a nearby park as the sun rises.

There are always more simple, entertaining outings in Alexandria. It’s one of the main reasons that our residents love living at our Alexandria apartments. Take a tour today and see what they’re talking about.
