Glen Oaks Gives Back to Military Families Through Fisher House
May 7, 2015
When they’re hospitalized for sickness or injury, members of the military and veterans can count on Fisher House to provide comfortable housing nearby for their families.
Fisher House counts on donations from individuals and organizations like ROSS to provide the resources they need to make Fisher House a home away from home, while loved ones receive medical treatment. As part of the ROSS Companies commitment to giving back to the communities it serves and military families, the Glen Oaks apartment community team members recently delivered their donations to the local Bethesda Fisher House.
“Veterans and members of the military have sacrificed so much for our freedom and security here at home,” says Terry Brewer, vice president of human resources for ROSS Companies. “The least we can do is be there for them and their families when they’re hospitalized. We are proud to have this opportunity to help Fisher House help military families while their loved ones are sick or injured.”
Afolabi Abudu, Fran Bennett, Carlos Escobar Delgado, Markeita Fridie, Mark James, Eric Kinard, Willy Morel, Sabrina Riley, Jose Vigil and Debra White collected dozens of items through a household items drive held between April 1 and 27. Among the necessities the Glen Oaks team collected and delivered were easy-to-make meals, snacks, laundry baskets, cleaning supplies and local restaurant gift cards.
The donation was just one of many activities ROSS has completed or plans to complete for Fisher Houses throughout the region. ROSS prepared and provided 73 Easter Theme Baskets to families who were staying at the houses during the holiday and has plans to give more of the company’s time and resources to the organization throughout the remainder of 2015.
